OLDS — Firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire that broke out in a mobile home in Olds.
However, in a news release, Olds Fire Department Chief Justin Andrew says the cause is not believed to be suspicious.
The blaze was reported Sunday, May 15 at 10:13 p.m. at 5357 Birch Road.
Residents were home at the time but escaped without injury, the release says.
Fourteen firefighters spent about three hours extinguishing the fire and overhauling the scene.
Ambulance personnel as well as staff from Alberta Health Services, Fortis and ATCO also responded to the scene to help out.
“Upon arrival, fire crews observed heavy smoke exiting the structure from the roof line and attic space, with no visible flame,” said a news release issued today.
“Firefighters initiated an offensive attack and quickly extinguished the fire, found in the front portion of the mobile home,” the release said.
Although the fire didn’t break through to the home’s exterior, it caused “extensive smoke and heat damage to the interior of the home,” the release added.
Andrew said as a result of the fire, the occupants were unable to return to the home but have been supported by the Canadian Red Cross via its disaster assistance program.
