OLDS — Olds RCMP and the CP Rail police are continuing to investigate the cause of a collision between a train and farm vehicle that occurred just outside Olds on Tuesday, April 18.

The collision occurred at 3:01 p.m. at a train crossing at Range Road 15 and Township Road 324, south of Olds.

“Upon arrival, crews found that a single tandem axle farm vehicle had collided at slow speed with the passing locomotive," a news release issued by the Town of Olds says.

“The collision caused extensive damage to the farm vehicle and locomotive, which created a closure of two crossings on the south side of Olds for approximately three hours.”

The release says the driver of the farm vehicle sustained minor injuries and was transported to hospital in Olds by ambulance personnel. The train crew didn’t suffer any injuries.

Traffic was re-routed while emergency crews dealt with the incident.

CP Rail crews repaired the locomotive, inspected the tracks, and enabled rail traffic to resume.

“It's important for the public to remember, when crossing any rail crossing, it is always the motorist’s responsibility to ensure it is safe to do so,” the release says.
