More than 270 people showed at the Alumni Centre to attend the Olds Chamber of Commerce Business Awards 2011.
The Didsbury High School band provided the entertainment by playing jazz and band classics as people mingled and made the rounds of the tables for a chance to win prizes.
G&L Bulk Sales/Bluewave Energy won the Community Spirit Award.
“It is awesome. G&L has been in business here for 30 years in this town,” said branch manager Marcel Hochstein.
“We are proud to be in this town. It is an awesome place to be.”
360 Snow and Skate won the People's Choice Business Award for the second time in a row.
“It feels really good. The community definitely supports us. I am really happy about that,” said manager Shea Strocher
B & M Home Hardware & Building Centre won the Business of the Year (16-plus employees) Award, while Torrock Sales & Services Inc. won the Business of the Year (15 or fewer employees) Award.
Jim's Place server Dickie Standing Alone won the Exceptional Customer Service Award.
“I enjoy people. I love serving people and this is just like a little bit of the recognition,” he said after accepting his plaque.
“I have to thank everybody at the restaurant because I can't be a professional server without having great food to go along with it. During good and bad days, you all are part of it and I love you all.”
Craig Millang won the Youth Employee of the Year Award for his years spent working at Staples. His mother accepted the award on his behalf, as Millang is currently studying at the University of Alberta and was not able to attend.
Barb Babiak, executive director of the Olds Chamber of Commerce, was very happy about the evening.
“I think it went well. We have had lots of positive feedback,” she said.
“We had great food, great entertainment and a great jazz band. It just went well.”
