During a breakfast at the Legion this Friday, organized by the Olds & District Chamber of Commerce, Mayor Michael Muzychka will give an address about the number of jobs expected over the next few years as several companies set up shop in town.

A breakfast meeting has been organized to let residents know about businesses and jobs anticipated to come to the community in the next few years.

The event, to be held Friday, Feb. 16 at 7:30 a.m. at the Olds Legion, is the brainchild of and The Olds & District Chamber of Commerce and Uptowne Olds committee.

Mayor Mike Muzychka will address the crowd. His topic is A Community Growing – Challenges and Opportunities. It's expected the marijuana production companies coming in the community will be part of the discussion.

A question-and-answer period will follow Muzychka's speech.

Doors open at 7:30 a.m. The program is expected to run from about 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., with networking to follow until about 9:30 a.m.

"This event will hopefully shed some light on what the new influx of jobs will mean to business owners, and what they can expect from the influx of people to the community," ODCC president Ben Stone says.

"Not only should we see an increase in the population of Olds, but we will also see a greater number of people passing through Olds for a variety of reasons.

"Not only do we, as a business community, want to facilitate this, but we would also like to monetize this to truly reap all of the economic benefits that are available."

Stone is hopeful the information provided via the breakfast will help business owners prepare for the changes that are coming.

"Whether this means increasing inventory, changing marketing strategy, hiring employees, or various other strategic initiatives, this meeting should serve to prepare business owners and allow them to get ahead of the game," Stone says.
