Our Flames Lounge was packed Sept. 19 for the unveiling of nominees for this year's edition of the Olds & District Chamber of Commerce Business Awards Recognition and Celebrations.
That event takes place Oct. 17 at the Olds College Alumni Centre. The theme is Open For Business.
A new category this year is the President's Choice award. There are two nominees: Olds Auction Mart/Rosehill Auction Services and the Olds Institute for Community & Regional Development.
Nominees for Business of the Year, 15 or fewer employees are TyCal Inspection Services Inc., ilock & Key, DermaNuva Skin & Health, Pet Planet, Ulry's Automotive, and Cal-Tech Diesel.
Nominees for Business of the Year, 16 + employees are Westview Coop, A & W Restaurant, and O-NET (Olds Fibre Ltd.).
Community Spirit (for-profit businesses/organizations) nominees are Pandora's Boox & Tea, Our Virtual Desk, Suzanne's & Jenny's, Cody & Company, Heavy Horse Tattoo, and Jensen's Men's Wear.
Nominees for Community Spirit (not-for-profit organizations) are Olds Rural Crime Watch Society, Mountain View Child Care Society, Rotary Club of Olds, and Padnoma Support Services.
Youth Employee of the Year nominees are Jamel Landong (DQ Olds), Abbey Iverson (Olds Regional Exhibition), and Luke Saby (Trackside Sales & Service).
Nominees for the People's Choice award are Preferred RX Pharmacy, Gadget's Computers, Boomer Movers, TyCal Inspection Services Inc., Big Rack Rentals, Royal LePage Wild Rose Real Estate, Seasons Olds/Seasons Encore, and Gotcha Jeans.
Nearly 70 people and teams of employees are listed as nominees for the Exceptional Customer Service award.
During the evening, sponsor Evan Thompson of RBC Dominion Securities Wealth Management addressed the crowd. He was the major sponsor of the Business Beer and Blue Jeans event, along with Prokopis Roussakos, the owner-operator-chef at Our Flames.
