A man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a former Olds resident.

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) announced late last week that Richard William Rockey, 46, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Randy Evans, 54, who died in May 2015.

Evans grew up in the Olds area.

In a release, EPS said that after a "lengthy investigation," they believe that Rockey fatally stabbed Evans during an attempted robbery.

Rockey was arrested by EPS homicide section detectives in Vancouver on Friday, April 27 with help from Vancouver police. He was then brought back to Edmonton and remanded.

At about 1:46 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, EPS officers found Evans lying outside the front doors of of a hotel in that city.

Evans was treated at the scene and transported to hospital by ambulance personnel, but died several days later.

An autopsy determined the cause of death to be a stab wound to the chest.
