OLDS — An official with BGC Olds and Area, which operates child care facilities, says their organization is pleased to see another daycare operator opening in town.
Town council has approved a bylaw change to allow a daycare centre in the strip mall where CIBC is located.
BGC Olds and Area youth and community outreach director Lauren MacMullen says that organization is not involved in that project, but nonetheless she’s happy to see that one is planned.
“There is a need for child care in our community,” MacMullen said during an interview with the Albertan.
“There’s a really great need for it because right now, we just opened -- I think, our fourth location – for different kind of things in Olds and we still have a waitlist of over 80 families that need child care that we can’t get in right now.
“I think there’s always a need for good child care options within our community,” she added.
“We hope this will help some of our parents in the community that we haven’t been able to serve yet because (there’s) such a need. Hopefully this will get rid of that barrier for them.”
