BOWDEN -- Town councillors have voted to waive a water bill of nearly $2,500 for the new community hall because it's been determined its water meter wasn't operating properly and the hall never used anywhere near that amount of water.

The precise figure is $2,489.40.

The request to forgive the bill came from Bowden Expanding Horizons, the group that spurred creation of the new hall last year.

"How did that happen?" Coun. Randy Brown asked.

Acting chief administrative officer Jacqui Molyneux said it appears there was a problem when the water meter was hooked up.

"So with the water meter, even if there's air going through, as long as that thing is spinning, it's counting," she said, adding that lately, the hall's water use is down to a normal figure.
