Olds-area organizations earned two wins at the Central Alberta Economic Partnership awards that were handed out in Red Deer on Nov. 27 during the organization's autumn general meeting.
The Town of Olds and the Olds Institute For Community and Regional Development were bestowed the community of the year award while O-NET was given the nod in the innovative business award category. Olds College was also nominated for the community spirit award in light of the institution's centennial celebrations this year.
The institute's mission is to promote and support community and economic development and it received the community of the year honour along with the town for the collaborative efforts of the institute's volunteers and the relationships developed between the institute's members.
O-NET is the service provider and marketing brand for Olds Fibre Ltd, a fibre-optic network company owned by the institute, and it was recognized for its innovation and positive effect on the local community.
“We were quite pleased. It was a good night for Olds again. People recognize us as a fairly progressive community, doing things that other communities could model,” said Harvey Walsh, Olds town council's representative on the partnership.
