Complaints about suspicious incidents soar

Olds RCMP received at least 20 more calls from residents during late March than they normally receive - especially regarding suspicious activity, according to Cpl. Michael Black.

Black says the Olds detachment received 83 calls for service during the week of March 23, up from the regular figure of 60.

"I think a lot of people are starting to be a little bit more observant in terms of who's in their area and coming around - both in town and in the rural locations," Black said during an interview with the Albertan.

"It is good in terms of people calling in and saying, ësomething doesn't look right here'."

On March 28 at about 7 p.m., Olds RCMP responded to a complaint that a motorcycle had been stolen from Olds College.

"The bike ended up getting kind of dumped into the ditch just to the south of the college. One adult male was located in the area. He was arrested and charges are pending," Black said.

Between the evening of March 23 and the morning of March 24, someone broke into a home on Douglas Place near Dear Meadow School, off 63rd Avenue, found the keys for a GMC Sierra and stole it.

It was found later in Edmonton.

Black says the vehicle was recovered and a suspect has been arrested in connection with the matter, but as of late last week, Olds RCMP were awaiting more information on it.

On March 23 at about 4:20 a.m., police received a report of a break-in in a shed on Hawthorn Way.

A thief or thieves entered the shed and stole some tools.

As of late last week, police were still investigating that incident and would like to speak with anybody who may have some information in connection with it.
