A benefit concert, held at the Olds Legion Hall, raised $3,957 for the Wood Buffalo Food Bank in Fort McMurray.

Penny Marks, one of the organizers and performers, says the money was raised from ticket sales and a silent auction. A portion of CD sales also went toward the cause.

The event, held June 4, primarily featured country, old-time and blue grass music, performed by musicians from Olds, Bowden, Sundre and Carstairs.

“We decided to give it all to the food bank in Fort McMurray because they lost all their frozen food and fresh food because there was no power (for weeks),” Marks says.

Marks is grateful to all those who helped out with the benefit, either in organizing the event and/or as performers.
