The Olds Kiwanis Club raised $10,000 for the Mountain View Emergency Shelter Society through a wine survivor contest.

Ninety-seven teams of five members each participated in the contest, which ran from mid to late June, raising a total of $9,700. The club threw in another $300 to make it an even $10,000.

Five-member teams were created. Each team member bought one $15 bottle of wine and paid a $20 registration fee. So each team raised $100 and bought five bottles toward the cause.

Each player's name was put into a draw barrel. Forty-eight names were drawn out daily and eliminated from the game over 10 days. The last players standing won wine for their entire team.

Carol's Choice Chardonnay was the winning team, receiving 49 bottles of wine each. Members of that team were Bill Dunbar, Erica Sweetman, Ron Sweetman, Paul Munksgaard and Elaine Graham.

Totally Corked (Paulette James, Trudy James, Sharyl James, Cindy Boffey, Barry Christian) placed second.

Zin It To Win It (Debbie Stephenson, Elaine Busling, Ronna Holmes, Mike Fraser, Floyd Thiessen) placed third.

Celtic Winos (Amanda Doyle, Kathy Doyle, Carol Rauw, David Doyle, Brian Doyle) finished in fourth place.

Men are From Mars, So Women Drink Wine (Joanie Movvow, Rhonda Warawa, Darlene Kusick, Shelley Wood, Stacey) ended up in fifth place.
