OLDS – A suspected drug dealer faces a long list of charges after Mounties discovered more than $100,000 worth of illicit substances as well as weapons upon conducting a search of two homes and two vehicles.
On Thursday, Nov. 24, an Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) from Red Deer, with assistance from the RCMP in Olds and Sundre, carried out the search following a two-month investigation, reads part of a press statement issued Dec. 6.
The following was seized as evidence:
• 285 grams of fentanyl;
• 201 grams of cocaine;
• 697 grams of methamphetamine;
• 2,900 ml of gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB);
• 372 hydromorphine pills;
• four firearms; and
$8,445 cash.
As a result, the suspect – who is bound by a lifetime firearms prohibition – faces 19 charges. Of the four firearms found in his possession, two were stolen handguns, police reported.
“The firearms will be submitted for further forensic testing and ballistics analysis to determine if they were previously used in any other crimes,” said police.
Eric Becker, 33, was scheduled to appear in Didsbury provincial court on Monday, Dec. 5.
The accused also faces six charges of breaching relating to a prior and similar ALERT investigation dating back to this past February.
The latest investigation began this past September following a tip about drug trafficking in the community, police said.
Members of the public who suspect drug or gang activity in their community may either call their local police or report anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
