Crews responding to gas leak in uptowne Olds

The Olds Fire Department and RCMP responded to a gas leak at the intersection of 50 Avenue and 51 Street in uptowne Olds shortly before 11 a.m. on Aug. 5.The leak is located within the main street construction site.

The Olds Fire Department and RCMP responded to a gas leak at the intersection of 50 Avenue and 51 Street in uptowne Olds shortly before 11 a.m. on Aug. 5.The leak is located within the main street construction site.Nearby residents and businesses have been instructed to shut their windows.ATCO Gas is also on scene trying to come up with a plan to contain the situation.Shortly before noon, Olds Fire requested Fortis Alberta to isolate the breaker panel inside Craig's store because an LEL (lower explosive limit) was detected inside the store.A team went in and undertook “natural ventilation” (opening doors and windows) of the building. The team has since evacuated the structure.Further updates will be provided as soon as we have information.
