OLDS - Residents will be able to cast their vote early for a new Town of Olds councillor this Friday and Saturday.
The advanced polls to fill the seat left vacant by the resignation of Wade Bearchell will be held Jan. 3 from 4 - 8 p.m. and on Jan. 4 from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
On both days, voting will be held in council chambers at the Town of Olds municipal office.
There are seven people vying for the seat in the byelection.
On nomination day, Michael Merritt, the town’s chief administrative officer, said he was encouraged to see so many people step up.
“I think it’s a good show of democracy that people are interested in being part of council and I look forward to a very good election and that a lot of issues get discussed,” said Merritt.
He added that it’s very important to fill the seat because there is nearly two years left until the next municipal election.
The byelection will be held on Jan. 20.
