Members of the Carstairs Elks Club donated $8,000 to seven local organizations at the club's annual turkey dinner held last week.

That included $5,000 to the Carstairs Regional Skate Park Committee, according to club secretary Wayne Stull.

The club also donated $500 to the CC Tigers football team, Carstairs Scouts, junior rodeo and junior curling programs in Carstairs, as well as the local Christmas hamper program and the county-wide Christmas hamper program, he said.

The donations were presented by Greg Jochems, who is the club's exalted ruler, at the Carstairs Community Hall on Dec. 9.

The dinner event has been held annually in December for about 15 years. Stull said it's important to club members to give back to the community and they consider requests from all organizations that support children and minor sports.

The club was established in Carstairs in 1978 and currently has 41 members who meet monthly. He said people are always welcome to join.
