OLDS — If you’re in the vicinity of the former Westview Co-op administration building along Highway 27 in the next couple of weeks, beware.
There’s something very spooky happening there.
Fright Nights – a partnership between BGC Olds & Area and TorRock Towing is presenting Cursed Cove there, a chance to be scared for a good cause.
Cursed Cove will be presented Oct. 25, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., Oct. 26, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., Oct. 31, 8 to 11 p.m., Nov.1, 7-10 p.m. and Nov. 2, 8-11 p.m.
A matinee for kids will be held Oct. 26 from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in support of Uptowne Olds’ Halloween Howl event.
Perry said the evening performances are geared to people 13 years of age and older.
Entry to the facility at Bay 2, 6207 46th St. is $10 with a donation of food and/or cash to the Mountain View Food Bank.
“Enter if you dare,” a poster advertising the event says.
During an interview with the Albertan, BGC Olds & Area youth and community outreach coordinator Kassandra Perry said money from the $10 fee goes towards BGC Olds & Area youth and child programming as well as next year’s Fright Nights, as well as the food bank.
Perry said a committee of 15 to 20 people, including representatives of BGC Olds & Area and TorRock Towing, have been working on the project since August.
She said about 40 volunteers, including actors, many of whom are students, stage the Fright Nights.
Fright Nights have a different theme each year.
For the last few years, those nights were held at the former fire hall along 50th Street.
However, this year, organizers had to find a new place, because the fire hall is being renovated to accommodate a couple of non-profits.
Perry said luckily, TorRock was able to rent space in the former co-op administration building as of Oct. 1.
“They are incredible,” Perry said in regard to TorRock. “They do so much on a lot of their own time and they build a lot of our sets as well.”
Perry described Cursed Cove.
“The whole premise behind it is sirens calling you, blood thirsty pirates capturing you, holding you captive, the monsters of the deep dragging you down. It's all about those kind of fears,” she said.
“We have an incredible group of 12 individuals that make up our Fright Nights committee and so we all pitched ideas and we all voted and that was one that really stuck out to everybody.
“So we've really just been in there constantly every day, a lot of late night getting all of it set up and ready to go.”
A spokesperson for TorRock Towing did not return phone calls by press time.
