The Olds Regional Exhibition (ORE) has elected its first female president.
Anne Burgess, who calls Carstairs home but works in Calgary, was elected president on May 1.
She has served as a member of the ORE's board of directors for three years and chaired her first meeting on June 12.
Burgess said while she recognizes the historic importance of her election as president of the ORE, the organization has busy times ahead.
"It's a great honour for sure, one that I take seriously," she said. "We're in for exciting times, not without challenges, but I think I'm up to the task."
According to an ORE media release, Burgess also serves as the general manager of the Canadian Limousin Association, an organization that assists producers with marketing Limousin cattle, and has a "diverse background in the agriculture sector."
"Originally, from Quebec, Anne is a horse enthusiast and has been integrally involved in many facets of the beef industry's purebred seed stock sector," the release states.
Outgoing president Curtis Flewelling, who served in the role for four years, will remain on the ORE's executive.
