Olds RCMP issued a total of 52 charges during Oldstoberfest.

The two-day Bavarian-themed rodeo took place Friday, Sept. 14 and Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Olds Regional Exhibition grounds.

Police laid 13 charges on Friday night and 39 on Saturday night.

Extra RCMP members were called in to work the weekend to prevent crime and ensure the event was safe for everyone. That included bike patrols and foot patrols at the Oldstoberfest venues and grounds during the festivities.

Overall though, Cpl. Courtney Harding says the event went well with "minimal issues until the later hours of each evening."

On Friday night, police laid 13 charges under the Gaming and Liquor Act.

That included unlawful possession of liquor, Illegal consumption in public, and transporting liquor in an open container.

In one case of suspected impaired driving, charges were laid for refusing to provide a breath sample.

Police were also called to a disturbance within the Cow Palace.

"An intoxicated male threatened a patron and then assaulted a security officer who was attempting to intervene," Harding says. "This male was arrested by Olds RCMP and is facing criminal charges for uttering threats and assault."

Thirty-nine Gaming and Liquor Act charges were laid Saturday night.

Police also laid one charge of driving while distracted.

One complaint was received of a person who was in medical distress.
