Five Women of Excellence nominees announced

A fifth woman from the Olds area has been named as a nominee for the Women of Excellence awards for Central Alberta. She is Christa Duquette.

A fifth woman from the Olds area has been named as a nominee for the Women of Excellence awards for Central Alberta.

She is Christa Duquette.

Her nomination was announced last week by organizers of the 11th annual Red Deer & District Community Foundation’s Women of Excellence Award Gala which takes place  June 6 in Red Deer.


Duquette has served as a doula in Olds.



A doula is a woman experienced in childbirth who provides emotional support, physical comfort and advocates for a mother’s wishes. The point is to supplement medical professionals by caring for the client’s emotional needs.



Other Women of Excellence nominees from Olds and area, reported earlier, are Jody Carrington, Maureen Gustafson, Lucinda Watkins and Lisa Nicholson.


Duquette and Watkins are nominated in the community category.

Carrington, Gustafson and Nicholson are nominated in the health and wellness category.


Jody Carrington



“Mother, wife, and psychologist, Jody is a passionate volunteer,” the news release says. “She dedicates her time to coaching hockey, her church – where she offers presentations about relationships and connections, and at community conferences and sessions.”


Maureen Gustafson



“Maureen has been volunteering in different capacities in our community for over 20 years. Her leadership and dedication to schools, her church, and to health is exemplary,” the release says.



Lucinda Watkins



“Lucinda is a dedicated wife, mother, avid promoter of health, and founder of the Olds Lending Shelf,” the release says. “Since 2008, Lucinda has worked tirelessly to provide clothing to families that require a little extra help.”



Lisa Nicholson



“Lisa is the founder of the non-profit Hope4mvckids Society,” the release says. “She dedicates her time to raising money to provide support to families who have children with medical needs.”
