Former high school site sold to Cam Clark Ford

Chinook’s Edge School Division confirmed on Jan. 17 that the former Olds High School site off of Highway 27 has been sold to the Cam Clark Ford Auto Group.

Chinook’s Edge School Division confirmed on Jan. 17 that the former Olds High School site off of Highway 27 has been sold to the Cam Clark Ford Auto Group.

Allan Tarnoczi, associate superintendent for corporate services for CESD, said the sale was finalized late during the week of Jan. 8 for about $1.4 million. The site had been up for sale since OHS vacated the property in February 2010 for a new site on the east side of Highway 2A. Some of the proceeds of the sale will go toward division capital projects in Innisfail, Penhold and Carstairs, while the remainder will go toward future capital projects.

"From a school division point of view it’s very exciting when we can take an asset that we’re not using and liquidate it, and use that money to support some of the capital initiatives that meet the needs of current students. We appreciate all of the efforts of the buyer and of the town in making this deal happen," Tarnoczi said.

The CESD property on the north side of Highway 27 that was formerly used as a sports field for the high school is also being prepared for sale.

"Chinook’s Edge is looking forward to the day when they can sell that as well," Tarnoczi said.

Blake Clark, general manager of the Cam Clark Auto Group, said the new space is about double the size of the company’s current dealership lot in Olds on 57 Avenue.

"A new facility will help us better serve our customers," he said.

The company plans on beginning construction of a new dealership at the new location in the spring. Clark said he expects the site to be finished sometime in the early part of 2015.

Mayor Judy Dahl said she was pleased that as a consequence of the sale, 51 Avenue was extended north to Highway 27, linking the highway to the uptown core.

"We’ve been trying to figure out a way to do that for 10 years and when the opportunity came (to work) with Mr. Clark to put his business there, it was pretty exciting," she said.

Dahl said the relocation of the Cam Clark Auto Group dealership to the new site will give the area a new look.

"It will fit in really well with our municipal development plan," she added.
