A local man arrested in connection to multiple thefts and break-ins in Olds last year had four charges stemming from a separate property crime matter withdrawn.

Kevin Leischner, 42, pleaded guilty in Didsbury court on Feb. 12 to a lesser summary charge of knowingly possessing stolen property under $5,000 in connection to a March 16, 2013, incident where he was caught with a stolen weed trimmer.

He was fined $500 and assessed an additional surcharge.

The Crown originally wanted an indictable charge on the matter and ended up withdrawing four charges related to the incident, including possessing stolen property over $5,000, violating the Firearms Act, illegal gun possession and possession of stolen property under $5,000.

Details were not readily available about the March 16, 2013 incident before press time.

Leischner is also charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, breaking and entering, possessing break-in instruments, two counts of theft over $5,000, theft under $5,000 and obstructing a police officer following an arrest in Sundre on Oct. 28.

He will appear in Didsbury court on Feb. 24 to answer to these charges.

Leischner has to answer to four additional break-and-enter charges relating to thefts from Olds businesses on June 14, July 2, Aug. 27 and Sept. 5.

On Feb. 5, the Crown withdrew two charges against Leischner related to an alleged credit card theft in Olds in May.
