OLDS — Residents in two retirement facilities have a couple of projects underway to raise money and collect food for the Mountain View Food Bank.

Until Dec. 14, residents of Seasons Olds and Seasons Olds Encore are collecting non-perishable goods for the food bank.

In addition, a cookbook called Seasoned with Love, filled with family recipes from residents, has been created. Copies of that book are being sold in both locations as part of the holiday fundraising initiative.

“Seasons is proud to do its part in giving back to our communities and celebrating kindness during the holiday season,” Gwen Smith, business manager at Seasons Olds says in a news release.

“With an increasing number of seniors accessing the services of local food banks, we strive to make a difference and prioritize food insecurity with the support of our residents, family members, staff, and volunteers,” she adds.

Liberty Poon, general Manager at Seasons Olds Encore describes the cookbook as “a labour of love from our residents sharing their traditional recipes, with some spanning a history of 100 years.”

Since 2016, Seasons Retirement Communities has focused corporate giving efforts on local food banks in the communities in which the company operates.

The news release says so far, Seasons has donated more than $222,000 in funds and food to local food banks.

“Seasons is proud to do its part to support local communities, especially during this time of great need," the news release says.
