OLDS — The Mountain View Emergency Shelter Society (MVESS) says while the holiday season is fun and exciting for many, it can be a very “dark and scary” time for victims of domestic violence and abuse.
From 2019 to 2022 MVESS saw a 235 per cent increase in the number of clients that sought their outreach services.
To cope with that demand, they now have two outreach workers to accommodate clients and develop programs.
The society’s programs are free for everyone and anything relayed by those seeking help is kept strictly confidential.
As part of its efforts to help and support those dealing with domestic violence and abuse, MVESS plans to begin construction of a shelter in Olds this spring.
But they need your help to do that, so the MVESS is conducting a Gift of Hope campaign to raise money for its efforts.
“With your help we can offer a safe place and continue to offer hope and outreach services to victims of domestic violence,” the society says in a news release.
