Olds RCMP say an investigation into graffiti sprayed in various areas in Olds is over. The alleged culprit, a youth, has been referred to the Youth Justice Committee (YJC), an alternative to the court system.

An investigation into graffiti that was sprayed throughout Olds and area last month is over and the alleged culprit, a youth, has been referred to the Youth Justice Committee (YJC), an alternative to the court system.
The graffiti was discovered throughout the community, but primarily in Uptowne Olds on April 17.
"The public was instrumental in providing evidence to link a youth to the crimes," an Olds RCMP news release says. "After considering all the evidence and in consultation with the youth and the youth's parents police are referring the matter to the Youth Justice Committee.
The YJC is a program that provides an alternative to formal court proceedings when dealing with young people who are alleged to have committed certain offences.
Youth Justice Committees involve trained community members who meet with people who have been harmed by offences as well as accused young people and their parents or caregivers.
As a result of those meetings, those involved "determine an appropriate and meaningful way for the young person to make amends for their actions," the release says.
