A 26-year-old man is listed in serious but stable condition, recovering from head injuries after a single off-highway vehicle collision occurred Saturday, July 14 on private property near Rge. Rd. 2.7, east of Olds.

Olds RCMP, Olds firefighters and ambulance personnel were called to the scene at about 8:45 p.m.

"Once on scene, it was learned that a side-by-side had rolled after the driver lost control on loose gravel," an RCMP news release says.

"The driver, also a 26-year-old man, received only minor injuries, however his passenger sustained serious head injuries as the vehicle rolled.

"STARS Air Ambulance transported the passenger to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary," the release adds.

As of Monday, July 16, the accident remained under investigation. However, police say alcohol "is believed to have been a factor in the collision."

Both the driver and passenger were wearing seatbelts, but not helmets.

"Although occupants of side-by-side vehicles are not required to wear helmets while operating on private property, the RCMP suggests always wearing them when operating off-highway vehicles to increase safety and prevent serious injury," the news release says.
