Highway 2 between Bowden, Crossfield reopened

Multiple motor vehicle collisions in whiteout conditions
local-news

Alberta 511 is reporting Highway 2 between Bowden and Crossfield is now open after being closed last night due to multiple collisions that occurred as a winter storm blew in.

A tweet from the provincial travel advisory service this morning at 5:15 a.m. said the multiple motor vehicle collisions have been cleared and the stretch of highway has been fully reopened.

Motorists were advised around 10:20 p.m. on Jan. 17 that the stretch of highway was being closed and travel was not recommended because of whiteout conditions.

Additionally, motorists were advised to avoid travel on Highway 2 between Penhold and Innisfail because of multiple collisions.

At about 2:30 a.m. this morning, a jack-knifed semi blocked the southbound lanes of Highway 2 south of Highway 42 near Penhold. Alberta 511 noted a tow ban was in effect so the recovery of the vehicle was not expected to take place immediately.
