OLDS — Hildebrand Motors has donated an additional $12,500 to the Town of Olds to go toward amenities for the new Rotary Athletic Park, bringing its total donation to $37,500.

The company's latest donation comes on top of their initial donation of $25,000, provided in 2017.

Hildebrand Motors' latest contribution brings the amount provided by all donors to $937,000. Mountain View County has pledged to match funding for the park up to $1 million, based on community donations received by Dec. 31 this year.

The money goes toward things like enhanced batting cages, bleachers and concessions.

Construction of the $3.6-million park, located northwest of Walmart, began last year. It’s expected to open this spring.

When it opens, it will contain soccer pitches, baseball and softball diamonds as well as 10 horseshoe pitches to replace the ones eliminated from Centennial Park.

Back in 2017, the Rotary Club of Olds committed to raising $500,000 for the project and thus obtained naming rights for the facility. So far, they've raised more than $350,000 toward that goal.

That includes a cheque for $285,000 presented to the town in September, the single largest community donation it has ever received, according to community services director Doug Wagstaff.
