The Grade 4 class of Alana Robertson recently received a Sunlight Green Grant award for a play they created and three songs they wrote about recycling.
The Holy Trinity School students won $500 for their efforts and will be using the money to purchase costumes so they can perform the play at surrounding schools beginning in the near future.
“We're going to buy better costumes for our play and then go to some of the surrounding schools to present our play. And we'd also like to get on the radio to sing our songs, ” Robertson said.
Robertson said the school found out about the program via an application that was sent to the school, and once the play and songs were created, they were submitted to the program. A panel of 10 student judges from across Canada then selected Holy Trinity's work for recognition.
In a letter recognizing the class's efforts, the judges wrote, “you are making a difference in your community and encouraging others to do the same.
The class will soon be buying costumes for their play and setting up dates to present it to other schools.
