OLDS — The Town of Olds has launched a new investment attraction strategy called Invest Olds aimed at promoting existing business and attracting new investment in collaboration with local and area stakeholders.

During a ceremony in council chambers on May 9, mayor Judy Dahl said the new initiative will be good for the community-at-large.

“Olds supports economic development to create high-quality jobs, develop a vibrant community and improve the quality of life in our region,” said Dahl.

“Through a comprehensive and multi-faceted approach to economic development, marketing, and communications, Invest Olds will serve to promote Olds as a community of choice and install confidence in the local business environment as a place to invest.”

Sandra Blyth is the municipality's economic development officer.

“The purpose of this strategy is all about creating a competitive business environment; an environment that will grow out local industry clusters and spur investment from within and also from beyond,” said Blyth.

“Invest Olds is implementing an investment readiness system for streamlining regulatory processes and removing barriers to invest.”

The initiative will include the hiring of a full-time business development coordinator and the launching of a new business locator and development map.

Outgoing Olds College president Stuart Cullum also attended Monday’s ceremony.

“The purpose of the strategy is about creating a competitive business environment that will grow local industry clusters, and spur investment from within and beyond,” said Cullum.

Olds and District Chamber of Commerce president Doug Rieberger said, “Invest Olds is about supporting all types of investments and that starts with our local businesses as a priority.”

Olds Coun. Harvey Walsh, who emceed Monday’s ceremony, called the initiative a good step forward for the local business community.
