OLDS - About 20 volunteers helped erect the Christmas Village in Olds' Centennial Park Wednesday, signalling the coming of Olds Fashioned Christmas events in town starting this weekend.

The village is a compilation of replica historical building facades from Olds' early history, set up along the walking paths at the park.

They include Wong Yet Star Laundry and Wong Pond Bakery and Restaurant, the J. Duff & Co. lumber and hardware store, G.H. Cloakey Real Estate office, Maybanks Drug Store, a school, church and the Canadian Bank of Commerce building among others.

It took volunteers more than five hours to erect the village.

The most recent addition to the village was a replica facade of the AGT building, added in 2018, which marked Olds Fashioned Christmas's 25th anniversary.

On the 30th anniversary this year, events kick off this weekend with the Olds Art Club Show & Sales on Nov. 4 and 5 at the Evergreen Centre and the 37th Annual Christmas Potpourri set for Nov. 5 at the Olds College Alumni Centre.

There is a bit of time for everyone to get ready for the Santa Claus Parade of Lights, which is being held this year on Dec. 2.

Events on the Olds Fashioned Christmas calendar culminate with church services on Dec. 24.
