OLDS — When the Olds Community Chorus takes to the stage Nov. 27 for A Wreath of Carols, their Christmas time performance, it will be a little different this year.
This time, several children will join the adults to sing songs here and there during the show, which will be held at 7 p.m. in the First Baptist Church.
“We’re doing a family Christmas, and I wanted a children’s choir. So I just put it out on Marketplace and said, ‘if there’s any kids who want to come, it’s free,’” director Theresa Wasden said during an interview with the Albertan.
“I had four kids and then I had six kids and now I’ve got 12 kids. And I said, ‘OK, that’s enough, I just needed a few kids for it,” she added with a light laugh.
Wasden said the kids are really excited to be participating – and they’re very impressive.
“I had one dad call me up and said, ‘my daughter’s only five (years old). Would you like to hear her sing?’ I said ‘sure, bring her over.’
“Oh my goodness, she was wonderful.
“So I have three kids that are about five years old, right up to 11 years old.”
Wasden said the kids will sing a couple of songs in the first half of the show and then open the second half.
“The purpose really is to have a family Christmas for all ages. So it’s not just seniors, it’s not just children, there’s a little bit of everything,” she said.
The Nov. 27 event is just one of several choral performances Wasden is involved in.
She’s also directing the Handel’s Messiah Choir, which will give a free performance Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 7 pm.
The Olds Community Chorus also took their show on the road to the Aspen Seniors Lodge in Didsbury on Nov. 10 and will do so again Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. at Seasons Encore in Olds.
