Cannabis and the law sessions are planned for Didsbury this month and next.

A local law firm is planning some information sessions to help businesses, landlords, tenants and others get ready for Oct. 17, the date when the sale and consumption of recreational cannabis becomes legal in Canada.

Isabelle Cadotte, a lawyer with MHR Law LLP, says the firm has heard concerns about how legal cannabis is going to affect commercial and residential landlords and tenants, as well as condo boards and people interested in getting into retail cannabis sales.

She says employers are also concerned on how the legalization of recreational cannabis could affect the workplace.

The company also hopes to arrange information sessions to cover those topics in Olds in conjunction with the Olds & District Chamber of Commerce (ODCC).

ODCC president Ben Stone anticipates that matter will come up for discussion during an ODCC board meeting later this month.

So far, two dates are set with the Didsbury Chamber of Commerce: Aug. 22 and Sept. 19 at the Didsbury Train Station, from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The sessions are free. Attendees are asked to bring their own brown bag lunches.

Sessions may also be held in Innisfail and Sundre.

Although Cadotte announced the sessions, she stressed that many lawyers in the firm can help clients deal with issues arising from pending legalization of recreational cannabis.
