Local hairstylist Lee Cenaiko of Zebedee'z Hair Design placed second in the gala category for the Canadian Cup in Toronto on April 14 during the Revel in Beauty 2019 event.
The Canadian Cup is an invite-only competition and in order to be selected for it, specific qualifications need to be met, such as being an award-winning hairstylist and having previously competed in the OMC Hairworld competition in Paris.
“I was invited to participate, it was wonderful. I was honoured to be one of them,” Cenaiko said.
The gala category that Cenaiko competed in wasn’t timed and she didn’t have to do the work on stage.
Cenaiko’s daughter Trinity was her hairdressing model in Toronto Just as she was during previous competitions.
Cenaiko chose to be creative with her styling in this competition and utilized hairpieces to complete the look.
“In hairdressing there’s technical and there’s creative; mine was more on the creative side,” said Cenaiko.
Cenaiko has no ill will towards the winner of the category Ken Hiebert but in fact considers it an honour to have shared the stage with him.
“He’s like the top hairdresser in Canada at the moment and to be placed a really close second to him was an honour,” said Cenaiko. “His work was immaculate, it was beautiful work.”
Cenaiko is looking at Paris as her next competition but this time she’ll be leading a team of hairstylists from Canada.
“I’ve been asked to lead a team for the Paris competitions. We’re still looking for stylists to compete in prestige gala and prestige bridal. We’d like to have a team of three to go,” she said.
Cenaiko is set to attend the OMC Hairworld competition in September of this year.
