OLDS - A local student has been named local champion of the 2020 Knights of Columbus Essay Contest in Grade 8 from Olds.

Father Forsythe Council 4748 in Olds sponsored the contest at Holy Trinity Catholic School.

The contest was open to all Catholic students, grades 8 and up, attending public, private or parochial schools.

Each contestant wrote their essays on the theme of: how trusting in God during a difficult time has helped you or someone you know find the strength and hope to endure it.

The Grade 8 winner of this year’s contest was Bennett Richard Hawman.

The goal of the Knights of Columbus Essay Contest is to give students the opportunity to define the importance of religious freedom, and to strengthen the bond between the Knights of Columbus and their local schools.
