OLDS — Results from a second set of water tests required to lift a boil water advisory in Olds are expected by mid-afternoon Wednesday.

“It is the town’s hope that the results will allow Alberta Health Services (AHS) to lift the advisory at that time, but the final decision is up to AHS,” a 9 a.m. town update stated.

“Locally, our turbidity (or discoloration) levels are promising, dropping to acceptable levels and all other indicators are within expected ranges.”

The town of was placed under a boil water advisory at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, due to a power failure at the Mountain View Regional Water Services Commission treatment plant.

That forced water with sediment to shoot through a main line into Olds, resulting in the boil water advisory.

Residents are asked to boil water for at least one minute before consuming it or cooking with it.

Also, town crews flushed the south reservoir to get rid of any possible contaminated water. Water samples were taken and submitted to the province for analysis.

"The first Alberta Health Services water sample returned safe and clean with no bacteria or other concerns found," the town's update stated.

Town staff have stopped flushing its system at the request of Alberta Environment and Parks and submitted a second water sample for testing, which is the one for which results are expected later today.

Town officials thanked residents for their “on-going patience during this event” and promised to provide updates if any changes occurred ahead of the latest test results becoming available.
