Lots of academic awards for Grade 9 ÉOES students

Grade 9 students received lots of awards during the annual École Olds High School academic awards, held Sept. 13 at the school. The Kiwanis Award for Overall Excellence in Grade 9 went to Alison Mertens.

Grade 9 students received lots of awards during the annual École Olds High School academic awards, held Sept. 13 at the school.

The Kiwanis Award for Overall Excellence in Grade 9 went to Alison Mertens.

The Grade 9 Award for Highest Academic Standing was presented to Madison Syvret.

Awards for highest Grade 9 academic standing in core subjects went to Rio Feswick in French language arts, Madison Syvret in language arts and social studies, and Simon Mai in mathematics and science.

Cole Mueller won the Gordon Mitchell Spirit Award which goes to a Grade 9 student who goes above and beyond to be kind, empathetic and helpful to others in the high school community and/or takes on projects that benefit those who are disadvantaged.

Four students — Keaton Chrest, Alyssa Focker, Jenna Martens and Sierra Pimm — received the Grade 9 Rotary Club of Olds Service Above Self Award.

The Grade 9 Initiative Award was presented to Dayn Regan. It goes to a student who is willing and able to give a helping hand for the benefit of the school community.

Tidus Fox received the Grade 9 Exxon Mobil Award which is presented to a student who has displayed perseverance and determination.

The Grade 9 Dot's Day Award goes to a student in that grade who helps others achieve their goals and celebrates the success of others without seeking recognition for that selflessness. This year, it went to Rio Feswick.

The IODE Clara Shier Memorial Award/Kaleidoscope program goes to students in grades 9-12 who have shown dedication to — and success in — the Kaleidoscope program, which is designed to provide students with extra support to help them achieve success in school.

The Grade 9 recipient this year was Addison Forster. Recipients from senior grades were Brandon Goucher, Austin Cardinal and Morgan Cardinal.

Students who did well in the Central Alberta Rotary Science Fair in Red Deer were also recognized.

Grade 10 student Sophie Petersen's project Refueling Our World received the gold medal and was named Best of Fair. That resulted in a trip to the Canada Wide Science Fair.

Grade 11 student Claire Petersen's project Good Thinking or Gut Feeling also received a gold medal and earned a trip to the Canada Wide Science Fair.

Grade 12 student Parker Mogck's A Link In The System was awarded a silver medal.

Bronze medals went to Grade 10 students Jessica Toews and Avary Hickman for their project Assessing Mental Health in Adolescents as well as to Grade 11 student Noah Martens for Nature's Filters.

The DELF (Diploma d'etudes en langue francaise) is awarded by the French Ministry of Education for the French language skills of non-French candidates.

In the B1 category, Highest in Division went to Nova Van Soest. B1 diplomas were presented to Van Soest as well as Eva-Marie Parker, Teagan Rose and Sarah Smaldon.

Anja Kelly received the Highest in Division Award in the B2 category. In addition to Kelly, B2 diploma recipients were Pablo Becker-Lozano, Tierney Craven, Faith Dunlap, Montana Durand, Indianna Feswick, Taylor Haffner, Kyra Kjargaard, Emily Martinez and Claire Petersen.
