One person was arrested for possession of a weapon as well as drug possession and 42 tickets were issued for liquour-related violations during Oldstoberfest.

While those steps were taken, Olds RCMP Cpl. Shawn Morgan stresses that overall, the event went remarkably well, as far as police were concerned.

The fourth Bavarian rodeo was held Sept. 13 and 14 on the Olds Regional Exhibition grounds. Olds RCMP say they made sure "additional resources" were on hand to patrol the area and deal with anticipated extra traffic in the vicinity.

On Sept. 14 mountain bike patrol officers stopped a person on what police describe as "an electric bike" for failing to stop for a stop sign.

"During the investigation officers noted indications of drug and alcohol use and noted a black baton-like weapon being hidden by the subject," a news release issued by Morgan says.

"Further investigation found that the implement would conduct energy when a button was pressed and touched to a person's skin. The subject was arrested for possession of the weapon.

"A search incidental to arrest located about two grams of a substance believed to be methamphetamine. Police continue their investigation into this matter and charges have been laid. Additional charges related to the weapon are being considered at this time," the release says.

Two charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle were laid during the weekend, one of which was for refusing to provide a breath sample.

Forty-two violation tickets were also issued outside of the grounds on nearby streets, most of which were for liquour-related violations. Morgan noted the fine for those violations is $115.

One arrest was made for heavy intoxication. However, "this person was released to sober parties at the detachment," the release says.

During an interview with the Albertan, Cpl. Morgan stressed that, given the huge crowds that attended the event, the number of arrests, charges laid and liquour violation tickets issued is pretty small.

"We didn't go to any collisions that were alcohol-involved or anything like that, so by and large, I think the town had a very good event unfold," he said.
