Olds town council has received an application to expand an existing medical marijuana facility development that was approved in 2016.

The owners are seeking to re-designate two lots from light industrial to Direct Control 7 District (Medical Marijuana Facility Use and Development). If successful, they plan to consolidate the three lots.

A delegate from the applicant was available. No questions were asked. A Public Hearing is set for April 10 at 1 p.m. in council chambers.

Community Promotions and Public Relations funding

Mountain View Seniors' Housing Foundation made a request to council for sponsorship of its annual gala.

A recommendation was made by administration that a gold sponsorship in the amount of $1,500 be purchased. This led to a lengthy discussion about clarification of council policies regarding requests for financial support by local organizations.

The town has an annual budget of $15,000 that was slotted under the title of Council Promotions and Public Relations budget, which caused confusion.

Interim chief administrative officer Pat Vincent announced that administration would change the name to Community Promotions and Public Relations, and clarified that the funds are not intended for council promoting itself, but that it is council's portion of the budget for promotion of our community and of public relations.

In the past, council asked that funding requests be made during budget deliberations the prior year, a policy that was subsequently dropped. There was discussion about reinstating the policy.

At the suggestion of Vincent, a motion was made to table the request until the first council meeting in April, while administration examines and adjusts the current policies.
