Both the Olds College men's and women's volleyball teams were crowned Alberta Colleges Athletic League champions in Three Hills over the weekend.
The men defeated Canadian University College in the semi-finals and Ambrose University College on Saturday in the finals. Both were straight set wins. The victories capped off a 10-0 season for the men, losing only two sets all year.
“We played really well this weekend and … it was good to see the performance we've been looking for all year,” said John Riemersma, coach of the men's team.
“(Losing only two sets) was a pretty positive thing. We have a lot of depth on our team and everybody contributed.”
The women defeated the same teams to claim their title, beating CUC in straight sets and Ambrose in four sets. Alexis West was named as the ACAL MVP for the season, as selected by coaches throughout the league.
Both teams will be hosting the Western Canadian Championships Friday and Saturday. A total of 13 of the best women's teams in western Canada will be competing, while 12 men's teams will vie for the title.
