Building permit totals are ahead of last year at this time, according to development officer Carey Keleman.

The Town of Olds is doing well when it comes to the issuance of building permits, development officer Carey Keleman says.

Keleman made that statement during the July 18 Municipal Planning Commission meeting.

Statistics issued by the town show that in June, a total of 13 building permits were issued in Olds for projects worth a total of $1,616,292.

Keleman described those stats as "very good."

They're very close to June last year, when 11 permits were issued for projects worth a total of $1,636,100.

By the halfway point of this year, the town had issued permits for projects worth a total of $22.4 million.

Keleman was also pleased with that.

"Last year at this time we were at $17.3 million, so moving along, cruising along in this recession," she said.

Kelman singled out two construction projects in particular that are underway: a five-bay building under construction next to Wander Wash and the former Cilantro restaurant which is being converted to a Mr. Mike's.
