More collected in Olds retirees' food bank drive

OLDS — Residents in the Seasons Olds and Olds Encore retirement facilities collected more non-perishable food in their annual Christmas season food drive than the previous year for the Mountain View Food Bank Society.  

Residents of Seasons Olds collected 85 pounds and residents of Seasons Olds Encore collected 80 pounds for a collective amount of 165 pounds. 

In 2022, the two locations collected 50 pounds each. 

The company announced the results last week. The annual nationwide food drive was held Dec. 1-14. 

According to Food Banks Canada, the average weight of a single meal is approximately one pound. 

Nationwide, in 2022, Seasons collected 3,044.5 pounds of non-perishable goods.  

“This equates to over 3,000 nourishing meals provided to individuals and families in need,” a news release said. 

Since 2016, Seasons Retirement Communities has focused its corporate giving efforts on local food banks in the towns that residents and live in.  

To date, Seasons has donated more than a quarter of a million dollars in funds and food to local food banks.  

“Seasons is proud to do its part to support local communities, especially during this time of great need,” the release said.
