OLDS — Administrative staff of the Town of Olds have just over $1 million worth of capital projects they’re proposing to finish this year that weren’t completed last year.
Finance director Sheena Linderman listed the projects for town council during its April 3 meeting.
The total dollar figure for those projects is $1,080,616.
A spreadsheet in council’s agenda package indicated that projects anticipated to cost a total of $135,000 are conditionally approved.
A new ask though is to fix the fire hall’s HVAC control system at an estimated cost of $36,000.
“It has become a problem in the last few months and it’s proposed to be fixed this year,” Linderman said.
Council members asked very few questions about the proposed changes.
Deputy mayor Dan Daley wanted reassurance that the money is still there from last year’s budget for the so-called carry-forward projects
"It was allocated to projects in 2022 and then it’s just being carried forward. Exactly the same funding source and everything,” Linderman said.
“How confident are we this year that those projects will be executed and the dollars consumed,” Coun. Darren Wilson asked. “I don’t know if that’s a fair question.”
"It is, definitely,” Linderman said, adding she’s confident that work will get done this year.
“All of these have been started already so they will be complete,” she said. “We also re-evaluate the money that was allocated to them so we only carry forward what is needed to finish the project.”
Council voted to have all proposed spring budget adjustments brought back to the April 11 council meeting for further discussion.
