Donors gave money to help get law enforcement officers out of a "jail" in front of Walmart. Members of Olds and District Special Olympics (ODSO) also collected money from donors.
Half of the money raised, $2,691.50, goes to ODSO; 40 per cent, $2,153.20, goes to Special Olympics Alberta to support coaching programs as well as athlete transportation and expenses.
The remaining 10 per cent goes to the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) organizers to cover their expenses and help keep that program going.
ODSO chair Karen Mengersen says its share of the money will help cover costs to transport local athletes to various competitions.
"With the cost of fuel rising, the cost of hiring a bus to transport athletes and volunteers to tournaments also increases," she says.
Mengersen is very grateful to LETR participants for organizing the event and all those businesses, individuals and volunteers who supported it.
