The driver of a white Mazda faces a $233 fine after being charged with failing to proceed safely after stopping at an Intersection.

The charge was laid in the wake of a two-vehicle collision on May 27 that resulted in one vehicle crashing into a fire hydrant outside the Mountain View Museum and Archives.

Olds RCMP say the collision occurred at about 12:40 p.m. that day at the intersection of 50th Street and 51st Avenue.

No one was injured.

Emergency crews responded, as did town employees who checked the fire hydrant, which was not damaged as a result of the incident.

Police say the collision occurred when the white southbound Mazda stopped at a stop sign on 51st Avenue.

"Upon entering the intersection with 50th Street, the vehicle struck an eastbound Chrysler Sebring on the rear driver's side door," a news release says.

"The Sebring came to a stop facing north in the westbound lane of 50th Street and had struck the fire hydrant."

RCMP are urging motorists to be "vigilant" when they arrive at intersections.

"With higher volume of vehicle and pedestrian traffic during warmer weather months, in addition to more types of vehicles on roadways (bicycles, motorcycles, etc.) it stands to reason there is increased potential for collisions to occur," the release says.
