OLDS — The Mountain View Hospice Society’s first-ever fundraising golf tournament last month was a great success, executive director Mary Marshall says.

"Our net income for our golf tournament is just over $20,000 which I believe is a success for our first ever tournament," Marshall wrote in an email.

Tournament champions were the foursome of Eric Lafrance, Connor Lafrance, Liam LaFrance and MIke Howden.

The Priebe foursome, consisting of Jordan Priebe, Brock Priebe, Kevin Haller and Corban Knight, finished second.

The Hildebrand foursome consisting of Pal Hildebrand, Ed Hildebrand, Marion Hildebrand and Keith Klinck, placed third.

Closet to the Pin winners were Mike Howden on hole 4, Matthew Pierce and Penny Bayko each on 13.

Winners of the putting contest (they each managed to sink a ball) were Paul Hildebrand, Cory Noel, Gail Polonich and Patrick Reed.

Draws were held for people who had bought mulligans (a chance to do a shot over), putting contests and grenades.

A grenade is when a player is allowed to pick up the ball and throw it. But there are restrictions on how often that can happen.

More than 40 people contributed to the silent auction.

Marshall said organizers had great support from Olds Golf Club staff and sponsors.

“Our volunteers went above and beyond to support the event and we also have some takeaways that we can implement to make next year's event even better,” Marshall wrote.

“We have already heard a lot of positive feedback from our sponsors and attendees,” she added. “It was truly a great day.”
