OLDS — Mountain View Power is in the process of becoming officially owned by the Town of Olds, town chief administrative officer Brent Williams says.
Once that happens, it will be marketed more aggressively, with net dollars being distributed to local groups and entities, he said in an email.
Williams noted that Mountain View Power (MVP) provides gas and electricity to Olds and area customers under a contract between the Town of Olds' municipally controlled corporation (MCC), operating as O-NET and UtilityNet, a power retailer based in Calgary.
“Recent direction from town council has been to transfer the contract from the MCC to the town,” Williams wrote.
“Once this is complete, the town will establish a procedure to ensure all net dollars generated from MVP are distributed to local community groups/events/facilities/initiatives, etc.”
Williams said the Town of olds has requested that the contract transfer occur. As of last week, they were waiting for UtilityNet officials to “respond and initiate the process.”
Once that transfer occurs, the citizens of Olds will own MVP, he wrote.
“Once the transfer is complete, the town will be more proactive in advertising and promoting the service, as it does provide great benefit to the community,” Williams wrote.
