OLDS — The town’s Municipal Planning Commission has approved the conversion of a garage into a secondary suite (a separate place for people to live).
The application in question was for a secondary suite in the garage of a home at 5603 43rd St. Close.
In May, the commission had put that application on hold because commissioners were concerned they might be setting a precedent if they approved it.
However, during the interval between their June and May meetings, commissioners learned that the town does indeed allow stand-alone secondary suites in districts for single family dwellings and has done so in the past.
In fact, information provided by administrative staff showed that in the past, three garage suites had been approved in R1 districts (areas for single-family homes) in the community.
