Construction on the new 4,500-square metre Mountain View Credit Union building on 65 Avenue should be completed by the end of November, a representative with the bank said on Oct. 8.
Tracy Kelly, vice-president of marketing with the MVCU, said the new building will consolidate operations in Olds – the company's headquarters – into one place instead of having operations spread all over town. The MVCU currently has its main branch at the corner of 50 Avenue and 50 Street, while it also has a business-banking centre and centralized loan service located at 49 Avenue and 48 Street. The space for the business banking centre and centralized loan service is leased space while the credit union owns the building on 50 Street.
“One of the biggest impacts for our members is that we'll have all of our services together in one building. By having everybody collectively in one building it just allows that much better service for our members. One of the benefits, for sure, (of the new building under construction) is that we won't be leasing space for those business units,” she said.
Once the MVCU moves over to the new building, the building on 50 Avenue will either be put up for sale or it will be leased to other businesses. The company is moving out to gain more space. The building on 50 Avenue is only 1,170 square metres.
“Ultimately, we'd like to sell it but if leasing is a better option for someone, perhaps that might be something that we would look at,” Kelly said.
The MVCU will occupy the first, second and fourth floors of the new building on 65 Avenue, with the retail banking centre on the ground floor and some of the company's support services and the business-banking centre on the second floor. The third floor will be reserved for leased space and the fourth floor will house the credit union's executives. So far only Mountain View Seniors' Housing has secured leased space on the third floor, but Kelly said the MVCU is actively looking for more tenants.
MVCU broke ground on the new building in September 2011. The company has 12 branches throughout Central Alberta.
