Former Olds resident Curtis Ross still plans to undertake his Cycle2Change2019 bike-riding fundraiser from Kelowna to Olds, but the dates have changed.

Ross, 37, who now lives in Kelowna, works in the oilpatch between Olds and Sundre.

The purpose of the trip is to raise money for mental health via Alberta Health Services in Olds as well as the Canadian Mental Health Association in Kelowna. He also hopes to raise awareness about the effect low oil prices have had on workers in the industry.

Ross was supposed to begin his trip at the beginning of July, but weather forecasts changed his plans.

He now plans to leave Kelowna on Aug. 15 and arrive in Olds on Aug. 20.

"When I was to depart on the 15th of July the rain forecast was 90 per cent chance of rain for five straight days with over four inches of rain throughout Alberta and B.C.," he wrote in an email to the Albertan.

"It was too dangerous to attempt those conditions so I looked at my calendar and figured out a future date that would work out."

Ross has set up a GoFundMe page for the trip. As of Aug. 8, Ross had smashed his $10,000 goal, having raised $14,290.
